For Ward 1 Councillor
For Ward 1 Councillor
Dear Fellow Ward 1 Residents,
My first term as a Hamilton City Councillor has been tough. Sometimes, very tough. It’s taken a toll on my heart, but never my hope.
When I ran for Ward 1 Councillor four years ago, people asked me, “Why do you want to go down ‘there’?” ‘There,’ of course, is Hamilton City Hall. These comments left me feeling sad and a little angry. Sad because people saw Hamilton City Hall as a hostile place. Angry because people didn’t think that Hamilton City Hall was working for them.
I’m honoured that I did have the opportunity to go down ‘there’ due to that election. And now I have experienced it and lived it. And despite all the personal and professional challenges it has presented, I want to go back.
Why? Because there is still much work to be done.
I am running because:
Four years ago, I made a heartfelt commitment to you to work every day to serve with all of my skills, passion, hard work, and experience. Since then, I have worked hard to earn your trust as your Ward 1 Councillor, and I do not take that for granted.
My goal remains to prepare Hamilton for tomorrow. To look ahead, move forward, and build a city that can offer opportunity and hope to its residents and attract the minds and talents of the next generation. And now more than ever, I believe Hamilton Council must lead by example, listen to learn and govern with purpose.
Onwards,
Maureen Wilson, Hamilton Ward 1 City Councillor
